The Front cover, cast member, Hank Block with two of his pirate friends in Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.
Backstage Summer 1967 broke a historic tradition at Disneyland.
For the first time, a live cast member appeared in a photo as part of an attraction in a Disney publication.
Approval was required from the top, Walt Disney.
    The original owner’s
boss at the University of Disneyland, Van France, made a few calls and received permission.
Van’s idea behind Backstage was to make the articles interesting, especially getting as many employees' photos and their names in every issue.
He knew what it would take to make Backstage popular.
Everyone knew comedian Wally Boag at the Golden Horseshoe in Frontierland, who was gracious enough to allow his name as Editor.
Wally also wrote an article for each issue.
The inside front cover lists contributors to Backstage.
Editor Wally Boag often used a clerk in the plumbing department to ghost write “The Editor Speaks.”
Claud Plum made his typewriter sound like a machine gun when he cranked out his articles.
Claud had another unique trait; he chain-smoked and never used an ash tray!!
“PEOPLE” featured Ed Carnegie from wardrobe department.
Feature stories on “Backstage Tomorrowland” and “PIRATES.”
Writers submitted article from: Main Street, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Adventureland, Maintenance Department, Disneyland in Uniform, News From the Administration building, Tour Guides, and Security Department.
“On The Bright Side” featured photos from motion pictures with clever captions.
“Candid Corner” featured photos of employees with their names and funny captions.
Four cartoons grace the back page by Roy Williams.
Condition: Original owner, no folds, no bent pages, corners are clean, complete, no marks.
The upper left of the front page appears to show wear, however,
    i
t is part of the original photo.
When it was proofed before it went to press, the print could not be cropped any tighter.
Cropping it tighter would have cut the top of the torch out and the pirate's shoes at the bottom (see attached photo).
