Description
This listing is for a whimsical folk art sculpture of a rooster. It is signed on the base "Zerapio Medrano H". The Medrano family has been producing folk art pottery in Mexico since the 1960's (at least three generations have been involved). This item was acquired several years ago at an estate sale here in Arizona. This piece was entirely made by hand. It was fired in a rustic primitive kiln. There are some naturally occurring flaws within the clay...including firing lines (fissures). You'll notice them where the feet were attached to the base. There's also one on it's back. In my opinion it's crudeness just adds to it's charm.
There are some signs of minor wear. It appears to be free of any issues/damage occurring after production.
The colors are rich and vibrant.
It measures approx. 10 1/2" tall. It's approx. 6 1/2" across at it's widest points. It weighs close to 2 1/2 lbs.
