    Description

    Santiago (St. James, Patron Saint of Horses) Retablo, wood, gesso and paint circa 1999 by Famed, Award winning Santera Artisan Monica Sosaya Halford of Santa Fe, NM.
    Signed in the bottom right corner (Pic) and inscribed by hand on back in pencil. Leather strap for hanging.
    Ms. Halford is world renowned and credited as the oldest living Santera Artisan in the US. Her work is on display in: The Museum of International Folk Arts, The Museum of Spanish Colonial Arts, The National Hispanic Cultural Center as well as in Private Collections world-wide.
    She has been honored numerous times, including: The Mayor's Award for excellence in the arts, the Governor's Award in the Arts and the Masters Award for Life Time Achievement by the Spanish Colonial Arts Society (1994).
    This one-of-a-kind hand crafted Retablo depicts Satiago on horse back carrying a cross.
