    Description

WEATHERED VINTAGE FOLK ART STATEMENT PIECE
Mid Century Painted Concrete Cardinal Circa 1962
    Weight is over 8 lbs
I have not attempted to restore the paint and won't. I like the aesthetic of the paint loss. Cardinals are my favorite bird and this is one of my favorite "art" pieces.
I found comps for nearly 0 on another concrete painted folk art birds of this age and want what it's worth, but set the auction starting price on the lowish side.  If the listing doesn't attract many bidders, you could get a great deal!
The cardinal is from my personal collection of vintage and antiques I am selling due to downsizing from a big antique home (1921) into a condo. I am almost 60 now and have collected since I was a teenager, in case you want to look at my other listings.  I've never enjoyed buying new things and instead have spent a lifetime in thrift stores, auctions, estate sales and antique malls.   I have just over 100 items listed now and try to add more every day.
    MID CENTURY CARDINAL
Among the winter birds (Cardinals and blue jays) it is the blue jays who are greedy, attack and have very poor manners.  Conversely the Cardinals are said to be a sign from Heaven when they appear.   The difference between the birds is that the blue jay is mean and aggressive and the Cardinal is chill and doesn't get aggressive unless defending its babies.
I've always had cardinals in my yard and they're my favorite bird.    First thing they do in the morning is fly the property several times to make sure nothing has changed, then go have their "meetings" up in the trees where they talk back and forth.  They do the same thing every day and it never gets old.
It's said when you see a Cardinal, you are getting a visit from heaven.  I'm blessed because I live among so many I see every day.
