Description
This is a very rare 1848 coverlet made by Emanuel Grube in Warwick PA. of woven blue and red wool.
The bottom edge has a signed block at each corner and there is fringe along the bottom and both sides. The corner blocks include his name and below Warwick PA it says "T.L.A.C.P." which stans for "Town in Lancaster County Pennsylvania". It was apparently made for the E. Cockley family.
Measures: 99" long [not counting 3" fringe]; 86" wide [not counting 3" fringe]
I'm not sure what type of flowers or leaves are included in the design, but am furnishing enough photos for experts familiar with these coverlets to determine for themselves.
Condition
This has been in a trunk for over 100 years - a trunk I inherited from my Pennsylvania-Dutch great grandmother.
There are no weaknesses in this piece - no broken threads, no holes, no missing fringe. There is one corner that shows slight fading, probably stemming from that side being favored when lying on a bed. [See photo for that slight discoloration.]
Other than the above, the coverlet is in amazing condition, considering its age. The colors on both sides are still bright and vibrant (with above noted exception.)
Hoping this ends up in some museum's collection where many can enjoy.
