    Description

    Hey there.
This is an INCREDIBLE collection of folk art carvings, most likely from the early 1800’s...if indeed they were always stored in this box.
These are mostly wooden carvings, or just painted sticks. The monkeys and a couple of the people have had wires threaded though to make appendages. The monkeys were fitted with pipe cleaners, to make their arms and legs bendable.
Some of the figurines have obvious damage to them, which makes them even more appealing, in my opinion. The craftsmanship, and painted expressions are stunning.
9 monkeys, 3 full bodied women, and an elongated women’s face on a stick. Full standing monkey, a half body monkey arm man, a full bodied man with a missing arm, and two freaky looking guys...both posing and partially disfigured.
The animals include are four white duck and swan heads painted on sticks, a platypus lookin creature with red painted features, and an awesome black duck stick with a yellow painted bill, and plenty of emotion. Most of the figurines measure around the 6” area.
I singled out and featured the most stunning figure of all. He is the full body, detailed hands and feet guy with the built in collar.
The box, which again I am not sure if they were always together, is initialed, A.M.F. Circa 1811.
Hand painted, with damaged, but original hardware. The hinge could be fixed so this could be displayed without having to be propped open.
Otherwise, it will need some help staying open.
You’re just not going to see this caliber of black Americana often. Perhaps these were slave crafted toys, I’m not sure.
    Thanks y’all.
