    Description

ITEM : Newspaper Comic Strip " Walt Disney's TREASURY Of CLASSIC TALES - The Legends Of DAVY CROCKETT ". This is the FIRST INSTALLMENT of this newspaper Sunday COMIC STRIP title that ran for a 6 month period. It is dated Sunday, JULY 17, 1955. Also included, the one-off July 17th  " DAVY CROCKETT's B'AR HUNT GAME " Sunday Comics feature. The two items appear on a FULL SIZE Sunday Comics page removed from a newspaper Sunday Comics section.
    VINTAGE : 1955. - dated July 17, 1955 .
SOURCE : This Full Page appeared in the SUNDAY COMICS Section of the SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER newspaper on Sunday, July 17, 1955. This FULL PAGE example was removed from the Sunday Comics section.  The Sunday Comics featured on the reverse side are BLONDIE and BEETLE BAILEY , along with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer title masthead.
SIZE : surface size of the Full Page is 14-1/4 " x 21-1/2 inches .
SPECIFICS :  The DAVY CROCKETT strip is printed in the " Half Page " format and the strip measurements are 9-1/4" x 13 inches. The ARTIST is not credited, however Comic Strip and Disney historians / researchers have attributed the artwork to noted comic artist JESSE MARSH. - - -  The Artist for the DAVY CROCKETT B'AR HUNT GAME is attributed and is signed by BUD SAGENDORF. Sagendorf is best known for being the Artist for the POPEYE / " Thimble Theater " newspaper comic strip from 1958 until his death in 1994. The size measurements of the " B'AR HUNT GAME " feature is 9-1/2" x 13 inches.
SCARCITY : Finding examples of the First Installment of the Davy Crockett strip in its largest format size ( 1/2 page ) is difficult. However, finding examples of the One-Time, One-off " Davy Crockett's B'ar Hunt Game " is a Rare occurrence. Numerous newspapers would have been " subscribers " of the revolving title " Disney's CLASSIC TALES " series from the King Features Syndicate. Particularly newspapers in the Hearst newspaper chain. They would have printed this FIRST STRIP in either the " Half Page " format ( as we have here ) or in the smaller Third Page format. HOWEVER, the Bear ( " B'AR " ) HUNT GAME was a " One-Off " one time offering. To create the space to run this feature, the newspaper would likely have had to " bump off " and omit one of their other comic strip titles for that week. A feature they were already " paying for " as well as risking the ire of their newspaper readers who were expecting to find that comic title in their Sunday morning reading line-up. Many newspapers Opted Out and did NOT print the " Ba'r Hunt Game " strip feature. It IS Quite SCARCE.
NOTE :  This is the Sunday Comics FULL PAGE as Printed in Newspapers back in 1955.  This FULL PAGE was printed on newsprint paper and removed from the actual Sunday Comics newspaper Section from July 17,1955.  It is NOT a Copy, Reproduction, Scan or re-pop in any way.
CONDITION: NOTE - There is a bit of paper loss  and a small edge tear at the centerfold line in the Margin area ; it does NOT affect the graphic aspects of the DAVY CROCKETT comic stripin any way. Please examine the photograph provided that shows this edge tear / paper loss in CLOSE-UP  -  The paper of this Page is slightly " age-toned ", a condition  inherent in older newsprint paper. It has NOT browned and is NOT brittle in any way.  Paper is very supple. Condition is EXCELLENT.
