1933 adMickey & Minnie Mouse
dolls
This is a rare and early ad offering magazine readers the chance to get dolls of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, as free premiums for subscribing. The ad was published in the Nov. 1933 issue of
Needlecraft
magazine, deep in the midst of the Great Depression.
The ad is a small one, measuring only 2 x 4 inches in size, on a sheet that is 10 x 13 inches overall
(see second photo). It is in excellent condition.
It presents an illustration of both Mickey and Minnie, in an earlier form than modern fans see them, with their tails entwined.
The ad describes the dolls in some detail, saying:
Now We Give Minnie with Mickey Mouse
Both given for two subscriptions
at 50 cents each
Mickey and Minnie are two separate dolls, each 7 inches tall. Legs, arms, and tails are very flexible and you can pose them at will. These are wooden toys, not stuffed. Will stand alone. They have red and black painted garments and big orange colored feet and yellow mits. Just like you have seen in the movies. For children of all ages, four to ninety-four. Order by name and be Gift No. 4312.
